Frontend Engineer

We’re in a pivotal stage as a company and are looking for a Frontend Engineer (Mid-Senior Level) to help us raise the bar on product quality, user experience, and technical execution.

You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend engineering to build thoughtful, polished, high-performance user experiences across the Instil platform.

This is a great role for someone who cares deeply about craft - someone who sweats the details, moves quickly, and wants to help shape both the product and the engineering culture of the company.

We’re also looking for someone who is excited about the role AI can play in both how software gets built and what software can do. That means using AI tools to accelerate development where appropriate, and helping build AI-powered features that create real value for our users.

We are remote-first, with a preference for candidates based in or around Los Angeles.

• Build and ship high-quality front end experiences across Instil’s core product
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend engineering to turn ideas into intuitive, elegant workflows
• Help shape our front end architecture, patterns, and standards as the product and team evolve
• Build reusable components and contribute to a scalable design system
• Improve performance, accessibility, responsiveness, and overall UX quality across the platform
• Strengthen our testing practices, code quality, and development workflows
• Use AI-enabled development tools thoughtfully to improve speed, quality, and efficiency
• Help design and build AI-powered product experiences, including interfaces that incorporate model-driven workflows and outputs
• Contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and help us make smart product and technical decisions

• Roughly 4-8 years of experience building modern web applications
• Strong experience with React and TypeScript
• Experience with modern front end frameworks such as Next.js is a plus
• Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience building reusable UI components, systems, or design libraries
• Experience with front end testing tools such as Jest or Vitest, and E2E testing with Playwright or Cypress
• Familiarity with REST and/or GraphQL APIs
• Strong instincts around usability, performance, accessibility, and responsive design
• Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment with a high degree of ownership
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows
• Familiarity with building AI-powered product features, such as LLM-based experiences, prompt workflows, or model-backed interfaces
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego working style

• Experience with React Query, Relay, or similar data-fetching approaches
• Experience with AWS
• Experience designing UX around AI features, including review states, confidence, iteration, and fallback behavior
• Experience in both startup and more established software environments
• Interest in mission-driven products or the nonprofit space

Front end quality is a huge part of how users experience Instil. The work you do here will directly shape how nonprofit teams manage relationships, track progress, collaborate internally, and take action.

This is not a role where you’ll just be handed tickets. You’ll have real influence on the product, real ownership over the user experience, and meaningful influence on how we build.

$135,000 - $170,000 base salary, plus 10% bonus and equity
