The Opportunity: Senior Data Scientist, NIRA

NIRA is an established and growing fintech lender in India, and data science is central to where we're headed next. We're expanding our modeling capabilities across the full credit lifecycle to unlock the next stage of growth: smarter decisioning, better pricing, stronger collections, and deeper customer understanding. As one of a small team of data scientists on the ground in Bangalore you will be part of an international DS network and have real ownership over work that shapes business outcomes directly

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Build the credit model estate: You’ll design and own models across the full credit lifecycle: decisioning, pricing, bank statements, collections, and marketing. These models directly determine business outcomes.

• Turn data into decisions - your way: One decisioning model sits in production today. You’ll fill the gaps: behavioral models, collections models, risk-based pricing, and more. Critically, you’ll let what the data tells you shape your approach and not the other way around.

• Own your work end-to-end: From scoping and exploration through to deployment and monitoring, you drive projects autonomously. If you identify what needs doing, you go after it.

• Communicate with clarity and authority: Translate complex modeling work for mid-technical stakeholders, pitch new directions with conviction, and bring colleagues along the journey.

• Collaborate across borders: Work as part of a distributed international data science team spanning Bangalore, the Philippines, and Mexico. Proactively share context and break information silos.

• Work with AI tools the way great practitioners do: We use Claude and other AI tools actively in our day-to-day. You’ll bring that same forward-thinking approach to how you work.

Why You’re a Great Fit

• Hands-on experience building credit models: decisioning, risk scoring, or broader lending domain expertise. Fintech or non-bank lending background strongly preferred over traditional state banking.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL. Experience with cloud platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake is a significant bonus.

• Comfortable with Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development workflows.

• You adapt your approach based on what the data shows, not someone who follows the same pipeline regardless of what the analysis tells you.

• Strong communicator in a distributed environment: you know when to share context, when to ask for input, and how to make a compelling case to a reluctant stakeholder.

• An active, enthusiastic user of AI tools, you see them as part of how great work gets done.

• Experience in distributed, international teams is a plus.
