Software Engineer / Platform Architect
About We Make Medicine Good
We Make Medicine Good is building the first of its kind platform to accelerate breakthroughs in precision medicine by enabling the public to directly fund and follow cutting edge scientific research. Think GoFundMe but for vetted, impactful science that changes lives. We believe in democratizing access to research and empowering communities to invest in their own healthier future.
We are looking for a Software Engineer and Architect to design and lead the development of our initial platform MVP. This is a unique opportunity to help define the technical vision and build the foundation of a venture poised to transform how science is funded.
Today, too many promising research ideas never make it past the lab bench, not because they lack merit but because the current funding ecosystem is broken. Public funding for research is insufficient and declining, while pharmaceutical R&D tends to prioritize the most profitable therapies over the most needed ones. The incentives of industry often diverge from the public’s health priorities, leaving transformative discoveries stranded without a path to patients. We aim to close this gap by giving individuals and communities the power to support the breakthroughs they care about most.
What You’ll Do
- Design and architect the MVP platform, balancing scalability, security, and speed to market.
- Lead the development of a seamless user experience and UI that inspires trust and engagement among funders and scientists alike.
- Define and implement the software architecture and development roadmap, making smart trade-offs in an early-stage, equity-driven environment.
- Collaborate closely with the founding team to integrate product vision, scientific vetting processes, and storytelling into the platform.
- Build core functionality, including project discovery, donation processing, community updates, and researcher dashboards.
- Establish best practices for code quality, security, and data privacy.
What We’re Looking For
- Senior-level software engineer (or higher), with experience building and launching production-ready web and mobile platforms.
- Expertise in software architecture, front-end and back-end development, and UX/UI design principles.
- Fluency in modern web development stacks and tools; ability to choose the right tech stack for a scrappy MVP with scalability in mind.
- Passion for science, public health, and mission-driven work.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working in ambiguity, taking ownership, and iterating quickly.
- Strong collaborative skills and the desire to contribute as a true partner to the team.
What We Offer
- The satisfaction of building something that accelerates life-saving discoveries and brings precision medicine closer to those who need it most.
- Potential for an equity stake as the organization grows, in an ambitious, high-impact setting at the intersection of science, healthcare, and technology.
- Flexibility to start part-time while we develop and secure funding.
- A chance to shape the product, culture, and future of We Make Medicine Good from the ground up.
How to Apply
If you’re excited about transforming how life-saving science gets funded and believe in making precision medicine accessible to everyone, we’d love to hear from you. Bring your skills and vision to architect the We Make Medicine Good platform from the ground up and help us democratize the future of medicine.
