Founding Engineer

Location: New York, NY

This role is posted on behalf of the following client: An early-stage NYC startup building an “agentic commerce” platform that turns a user’s intent to buy into a completed order across virtually any merchant site. The product enables a universal cart and one-click checkout by programmatically executing browser-based checkout flows and returning confirmations back to partner apps. The team is small, high-trust, and focused on shipping reliable, low-latency infrastructure at the intersection of automation, payments, and developer tooling.

Role Overview:

Seeking a Founding Engineer to architect and build the core systems powering an AI agent platform end-to-end. This role owns critical infrastructure from conception through production, with an emphasis on reliability, latency, and correctness in real-world checkout and payment flows. This position is also highly influential in shaping early engineering culture and hiring as the team grows.

What You'll Do:

Design, develop, and scale core product infrastructure, developer tools, and APIs/SDKs
Set technical direction for critical surface areas to support rapid iteration and growth
Build reliable, scalable backend systems that handle payment and checkout complexity across many ecommerce sites

Who You Are:

2+ years of experience building and shipping production software
Strong with TypeScript and modern web stacks (React) plus Postgres/Supabase and thoughtful API/SDK design
Interested in (or experienced with) browser automation tooling (e.g., Playwright) and domains like fintech/payments, ecommerce, or developer tools; low-ego, high-impact, and energized by early-stage ambiguity

Compensation:

Salary: $180,000 - $300,000
Equity: 0.5% - 2%
