Full Stack Engineer
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 3 days in-office)
One of our hiring partners is looking to hire a 3+ year Full Stack Engineer to join their growing team in NYC. A well-funded, mission-critical startup is taking direct aim at this broken machinery. Backed by Tiger Global and Primary Ventures, this team of healthcare operators, data architects, and product builders is reimagining how provider networks are designed—turning what has historically been a static, compliance-driven exercise into a dynamic, intelligence-driven advantage for payers and patients alike

Underdog.io is a modern recruiting platform. This role is being filled through Underdog.io — a invite-only network of vetted startups and high-growth companies. You won't go through a staffing agency or get passed around. Your resume goes directly to our hiring team and is reviewed by a real human. Your profile is completely confidential. If there's a good fit, you'll hear from us directly — no middleman, no black hole.
About the Company:
There is a quiet revolution happening in healthcare, and it is not being waged in a lab or a legislative chamber. It is being fought in spreadsheets, outdated directories, and the manual, error-ridden processes that determine which doctors patients can actually see.
The company already has product-market fit, real customers, and a clear line of sight to massive scale. Now, they are building the engineering team that will take them there.
The Role:
This is not a maintenance role. This is not a ticket-taker role. This is a seat at the table for an engineer with 3+ years of experience who is ready to build like a founder.
The company is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join a small, high-agency team rebuilding the core of their network adequacy platform from the ground up. You will not be siloed to a single view or service. You will touch the entire stack—from React components that shape how customers experience complex data, to Django services that execute the logic determining whether a patient in rural Montana has access to a pediatric endocrinologist.
You will work alongside senior engineers who believe that mentorship is not a distraction from the work, but the work itself. You will have direct access to leadership, clear ownership of meaningful features, and the latitude to make technical decisions that will outlast your tenure.
What You’ll Do:
- Own features end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration. No handoffs. No ambiguity.
- Contribute to the full rewrite of the company’s core adequacy application—modernizing a React frontend and refactoring backend services for scale, performance, and maintainability.
- Help scale the company’s adequacy calculations from a single-state prototype to a 50-state enterprise-grade engine.
- Partner closely with product, data, and engineering peers to define scope, challenge assumptions, and ship well-architected solutions.
- Write code that is clean, tested, and durable—code you would be proud to explain to a future teammate three years from now.
- Leverage modern AI tooling not as a crutch, but as a force multiplier, accelerating both velocity and output quality.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and the ongoing refinement of how this team builds software.
Who You Are:
- You have 3 years of professional full-stack engineering experience. You are past the “learning the ropes” phase and entering the “I can own this” phase.
- You are genuinely fluent in modern frontend development. React is your default, not a checkbox.
- You have built production software on the backend using a framework like Django, Rails, or equivalent. If that framework is Django, move to the front of the line.
- You understand what it means to ship and maintain features in a live production environment—monitoring, debugging, and iterating based on real-world usage.
- You are comfortable moving across the stack and hungry to go deeper on both sides.
- You are curious about AI-assisted development and have opinions on how to use these tools to write better code, not just more code.
- You operate with low ego and high ownership. You ask questions. You admit when you don’t know. You figure it out.
Why Join:
- Your impact will be visible. There is no management layer absorbing scope. You will build things that go directly into the hands of customers who have been waiting for them.
- You will be mentored, not managed. The senior engineers on this team have trained engineers who now lead teams at high-growth startups. They take this seriously.
- You will work on genuinely hard problems. Adequacy is not a CRUD app. It involves complex logic, large datasets, and performance constraints that reward thoughtful architecture.
- The mission is real. This is not healthcare-washing. This is a company fixing a specific, measurable, high-stakes problem that affects millions of Americans.
- The team is the perk. Low politics. High trust. People who would rather ship than argue about who owns what.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Meaningful equity ownership—because builders should share in what they build.
- Comprehensive health insurance, commuter benefits, and a stipend for home office equipment.
- Unlimited PTO, with a team that actually takes it and encourages you to do the same.
- A New York City home base with three days per week in-person collaboration. This team likes each other and believes in the signal of face-to-face time.
Location:
New York City (hybrid, 3 days in-office). This role is designed for someone who wants to be part of a physical team, not a distributed one. Remote is not available for this position.
