About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Backend Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for owning and evolving critical infrastructure components that support our large-scale data systems. This position is not just about executing predefined roadmaps; it involves defining the technical direction, architecting systems capable of handling multi-petabyte datasets, and setting high standards for engineering excellence across the organization. You will work autonomously on high-impact challenges, mentor senior engineers, and influence architectural decisions that will shape the future of our infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing scalable ingestion, indexing, and retrieval systems that serve our archival infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a proven track record of building large-scale, high-performance systems
- Deep expertise in Rust (strongly preferred), C++, or equivalent systems programming languages
- Extensive experience designing and operating distributed systems, data pipelines, and performance-critical infrastructure at scale
- Expert-level knowledge of database internals, schema design, and optimization patterns for large datasets
- Proven ability to architect simple, elegant solutions to complex technical problems
- Strong technical leadership and mentorship skills with the ability to influence teams and stakeholders
- Experience driving technical decisions and shaping long-term architectural visions
- Curiosity and a relentless drive to push performance engineering boundaries
- Comfort with ambiguity and thriving in fast-paced, high-ownership environments
- Architect and lead the development of ingestion, indexing, and retrieval systems across our archival infrastructure
- Define and drive the technical strategy for API performance, reliability, and scalability across high-throughput services
- Design and optimize data models and query patterns for databases such as ClickHouse, Postgres, and RocksDB at scale
- Lead system design discussions, making architectural decisions on caching, distributed data patterns, and performance trade-offs
- Establish standards for operational excellence, debugging methodologies, and performance profiling in production systems
- Mentor senior engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team
- Collaborate with leadership to develop the long-term technical roadmap and infrastructure investments
- Identify and implement solutions to complex, ambiguous problems that span multiple systems and domains
