Founding Staff Engineer (Mobile)

About the Opportunity
A rapidly scaling, venture‑backed consumer health startup is seeking a Founding Staff Engineer to partner directly with the CTO and shape the technical foundation of a product already loved by tens of thousands of paying users. The company is profitable, post‑PMF, and operating at the intersection of two explosive markets: GLP‑1–driven health transformation and consumer AI.
This is a rare chance to join extremely early, own critical systems end‑to‑end, and influence engineering culture, architecture, and velocity from day one.
What You’ll Own & Build
- Architect and scale core systems across the stack: backend services, APIs, mobile performance, infrastructure, and observability.
- Build for speed and scale, supporting tens of thousands of weekly active users and rapid growth.
- Deliver world‑class mobile experiences using React Native, with a strong emphasis on performance and polish.
- Ship backend services in Node.js or Python that are fast, secure, and reliable.
- Translate Figma designs into pixel‑perfect, high‑fidelity production features.
- Collaborate closely with design, product, and leadership to bring intuitive, high‑impact user experiences to life.
- Establish engineering best practices across testing, CI/CD, instrumentation, and deployment.
- Lead major initiatives from zero‑to‑one with autonomy, urgency, and ownership.
Ideal Background
- 6+ years as a full‑stack engineer with ownership of a widely used consumer mobile product.
- Experience shipping and scaling consumer apps in health, wellness, gaming, or AI.
- Previous experience as a CTO, founding engineer, or staff‑level engineer at a fast‑moving startup.
- Expert‑level proficiency in React or React Native and TypeScript.
- Production‑grade backend experience (Node.js, APIs, data modeling, infrastructure).
- Demonstrated ability to implement Figma designs with exceptional fidelity (portfolio or samples required).
- Actively uses AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) in day‑to‑day workflow.
- At least one strong signal of excellence (top‑tier company, university, or standout achievement).
