Job Summary
We are hiring two Senior AI Engineers to join a unified engineering team responsible for modernizing an existing eCommerce platform. This role leads end‑to‑end delivery of vertical slices—from React frontend through APIs, business logic, and databases—using the Strangler Fig pattern to deliver continuous business value.
Senior AI Engineers in this role do not follow AI recommendations blindly. Instead, they direct teams of AI developer agents, critically evaluate AI‑generated output, enforce sound engineering principles, and correct course when needed. AI is a force multiplier and thought partner—not the decision‑maker.
Both positions are equivalent in seniority, scope, and ownership. There is no lead/individual contributor distinction.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Modernization (50%)
- Lead modernization of an existing Rails/PHP eCommerce platform using the Strangler Fig pattern
- Deliver incremental business value without prolonged parallel systems or big‑bang cutovers
- Own full vertical slices end‑to‑end, including React frontend, API interface layer, service/business logic layer, persistence layer, and database
- Enforce strict separation of concerns across all architectural tiers
- Orchestrate teams of AI developer agents (analyst, architect, product, developer agents) from concept to production deployment
- Critically review all AI‑generated output for SOLID and DRY violations and ensure tests validate specifications rather than implementations
- Direct AI agents to correct architectural, design, and quality issues
- Recommend frameworks, platforms, and tooling using SCIPAB‑format rationale, supported by evidence
- Design and implement AI‑driven eCommerce capabilities such as intelligent search, product recommendations, and advanced catalog features
- Architect a governed plug‑in framework enabling extensible feature development by teams outside core engineering
- Evaluate AI orchestration tools and APIs, documenting tradeoffs and recommendations with clear pros and cons
- Design solutions for complex B2B/B2C hybrid commerce models
- Design and own CI/CD pipelines for all delivered features, including automated testing, deployment, and observability
- Participate fully in one‑week Scrum sprints, including planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives
- Treat all code as legacy the moment it is deployed, with shared ownership across new development and maintenance
- Operate as a single engineering team with no distinction between “A‑team” and “B‑team” work
- Demonstrate high standards of ownership, accountability, and technical rigor in all interactions
- Demonstrated experience directing teams of AI developer agents from requirements through production delivery
- Expertise in evaluating and correcting AI‑generated output, including identifying SOLID and DRY violations
- Expert‑level full‑stack development experience, including:
- React frontends
- Modern backend frameworks
- API design (REST and/or GraphQL)
- Relational database design
- AWS‑based deployments
- Proven experience modernizing a live production codebase using the Strangler Fig or incremental delivery pattern
- Hands‑on experience designing CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment automation
- Strong architectural judgment with the ability to present and defend SCIPAB‑format recommendations
- Clear, evidence‑based written and verbal technical communication skills
- Ability to work in a distributed team with cameras enabled for all virtual meetings
- Texas‑based with U.S. work authorization
Applicants Must Provide a GitHub Portfolio Demonstrating
- Multi‑tier, 12‑factor applications built using teams of AI developer agents
- Clear architectural separation between view, API, business logic, persistence, and database layers
- Integrated CI/CD pipelines
- Evidence of critical evaluation and correction of AI‑generated output (commit history, documentation, comments, or design artifacts)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI agent orchestration frameworks such as BMad‑method, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar
- B2B/B2C eCommerce experience, including complex catalogs, product variants, faceted search, and hybrid ordering models
- Ruby on Rails experience (helpful but not required)
- Experience integrating with NetSuite or other ERP systems
- Experience designing extensible plug‑in or extension‑based architectures
- One unified engineering team operating in one‑week Scrum sprints
- Sprint reviews held weekly, with in‑person participation for Dallas‑based engineers and video participation for remote engineers
- Remote‑friendly work environment within Texas
- High standards for quality, professionalism, and respectful collaboration
- Emphasis on ownership, trust, deep technical understanding, and consistent delivery of results
Current Stack (Being Modernized)
- Backend: Ruby on Rails and PHP
- Frontend: Server‑rendered views with JavaScript
- ERP: Oracle NetSuite
- Infrastructure: AWS
- Frontend: React
- Architecture: API‑first, multi‑tier, 12‑factor applications
- Backend frameworks and AI tooling selected based on documented rationale and evidence
