Group therapy for children often underperforms because therapists have to manage participation, pacing, structure, and documentation in real time. Quiet or socially anxious kids can end up participating least, even though the format is supposed to help them practice social interaction. This role is to build an AI-native pediatric behavioral health provider where a voice-first AI co-facilitator helps clinicians run structured group therapy while keeping therapists fully in control.
What You'll Build
$10,000/month for 12 weeks ($30,000 total). This is a contract role during the residency. If the build leads to a funded company, the next step is a founder-level role with meaningful equity upside.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
- A clinician-supervised, voice-first co-facilitator that manages turn-taking, pacing, and structured exercises during pediatric group sessions.
- Therapist controls and override workflows that keep clinical judgment with the human provider at all times.
- Session data products such as participation tracking, summaries, and structured behavioral signals that support documentation without crossing into diagnosis.
- An initial telehealth workflow for social confidence or social anxiety groups for children ages 6-12.
- A care-delivery foundation that can expand into a broader AI-native pediatric provider model if early clinical and engagement results hold.
- Build the MVP across real-time voice interaction, therapist UX, session orchestration, and data capture.
- Make product and system decisions that keep the AI inside a tightly supervised co-facilitator role rather than drifting into autonomous therapy.
- Work with clinicians and pilot partners to test whether the system improves engagement, consistency, and therapist capacity in real sessions.
- Design for healthcare trust: overrideability, auditability, operational controls, and clear boundaries around what the AI does not do.
- Work with AI Fund's build team on care-model wedge, technical scope, and route from pilots to a standalone provider.
- Strong full-stack product engineering, especially on real-time voice or interaction-heavy systems.
- Demonstrated experience building GenAI products where behavior design, control boundaries, and safety matter.
- Product judgment for expert-in-the-loop workflows where the tool must assist without pretending to replace licensed professionals.
- Comfort moving from early prototype to real-world pilot with operational complexity.
- You actively use AI coding assistants and modern GenAI tooling as part of your development stack.
- US work authorization. We are unable to sponsor visas for this role.
- Experience with speech systems, voice UX, telehealth, behavioral health, or care-delivery workflows.
- Experience in regulated products, clinician tooling, or outcome-sensitive consumer products.
- Founder or founding engineer experience.
- A builder who wants to apply AI to care delivery rather than just workflow software.
- Someone who understands that the wedge is not "AI therapist" but a tightly scoped, clinician-led system that improves participation and outcomes.
- This is a 12-week, full-time, on-site residency in Mountain View, California.
- Not every residency becomes a company. The goal is to pressure-test the idea quickly and honestly with real users and customers.
- You will be building an AI Fund idea, not bringing your own startup idea into the program.
- The process typically includes a Builder Event or equivalent working conversation, then a 48-hour Builder Challenge, then panel review with AI Fund build leadership.
- The compensation is intentionally modest during the residency because the upside, if the idea works, is a founder-level role.
