Head of AI / VP of AI Operations
We're a PR agency with deep client relationships, strong media networks, and a team of experienced communicators. We're now making a deliberate, serious bet on becoming an AI-powered agency — not as a marketing claim, but as a structural shift in how we work.
This role is the engine of that shift. You'll be the first dedicated AI leader in the agency's history — reporting directly to the CEO, with a mandate to redesign how our teams research, write, pitch, report, and deliver for clients using AI. You won't just advise. You'll build.
What you'll own
- Map every core workflow across the agency — media relations, content, research, reporting, client comms — and identify where AI creates the highest leverage
- Build and deploy AI pipelines for high-volume tasks: press release drafting, media list building, coverage monitoring, client reporting, and competitive research
- Select, implement, and manage the agency's AI tool stack — from LLM APIs to automation platforms (n8n, Make, Zapier) to specialized PR tech
- Train and upskill teams across the agency — account executives, strategists, creatives — so AI becomes part of how everyone works, not just a separate department
- Build internal standards for AI output quality, brand voice consistency, fact-checking, and editorial review
- Partner with client teams to develop AI-powered services and offerings that can be taken to market as new revenue streams
- Define and track KPIs for the AI transformation — time saved, output volume, quality scores, cost per deliverable
- Stay on the frontier — monitor what's changing in AI and translate it into agency advantage before competitors do
What we're looking for
Must haves
- 10+ years in a senior digital, content, or marketing operations role — you've run teams and shipped work at scale
- Deep, hands-on experience with AI tools — not as a power user, but as a builder: prompt engineering, API integrations, workflow automation
- Experience redesigning how a team or organization works — process change, not just tool adoption
- Strong communicator — you can explain what AI can and can't do to a skeptical account director or a curious client
- Genuine interest in PR and communications — you don't need to be a PR veteran, but you need to care about the craft
Strong plus
- Background in PR, journalism, or content at a comms agency or media company
- Experience building with Claude API, ChatGPT, or Gemini — not just using the chat interfaces
- Familiarity with PR tech stack: Muck Rack, Cision, Meltwater, Coverage Book, or similar
- Track record growing new services or revenue lines from an operational or technology role
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, and AI tool procurement
What success looks like in year one
- Core workflows — press release drafting, media research, client reporting — have AI integrated and measurably faster
- 80%+ of agency staff have been trained and are actively using AI tools in their daily work
- At least one new AI-powered service offering has been developed and sold to clients
- A clear AI roadmap exists for year two, signed off by the leadership team
