Principle Software Engineer
Location: Hybrid 3x / week in Oakland, CA
The Opportunity
This is a foundational, first-principal engineering hire reporting directly to a newly appointed CTO. You’ll play a critical role in shaping the next generation of the platform—owning architecture, building systems from scratch, and helping define the technical vision.
The environment is intentionally lean and highly technical, with a strong emphasis on hands-on building, experimentation, and rapid validation of new ideas.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build end-to-end systems from concept through production
- Develop agentic GenAI workflows leveraging internal and domain-specific datasets
- Build workflow orchestration systems for AI-driven use cases
- Contribute to marketing and growth engineering systems (e.g., personalization, engagement, email delivery)
- Develop commercial AI models to better understand user behavior and drive platform outcomes
- Collaborate closely with product, leadership, and a distributed engineering team (Europe-based)
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong builder mindset
- Proven experience owning systems end-to-end in early-stage or high-growth environments
- Strong backend development experience with Python (Django preferred)
- Frontend experience with React
- Cloud expertise (AWS) and experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases
- Exposure to AI/ML systems, ideally including LLMs or agent-based architectures
- Ability to operate autonomously, go deep technically, and articulate decisions clearly
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with healthcare or regulated data environments
- Background in building knowledge systems or data-heavy platforms
